Teaching Philosophy
Passionate and ambitious scientist that transitioned to teaching after eleven years of conducting scientific research in the agriculture sector. Inspiring curiosity by bringing student choice and voice into the classroom. Every learner has a valuable contribution to make to the learning process. Create an environment where students are comfortable, safe, and respected; learning can only happen after these conditions are met.
I am currently the agriscience teacher at a dependent charter school in California, USA. I have three years experience teaching the following six courses: Biology and Sustainable Agriculture, Chemistry and Agriscience, Honors Sustainable Agriculture, College, Career, and Leadership 1 and 4, and Math II (Common Core, Edgenuity). All career technical education courses incorporate Next Generation Science Standards. We have a population of 87 high school students and part of the small school magic is the deep relationships that we develop between students, families, and school staff. Our schoolwide practices include student-led academic interviews with teacher and counselor teams, student electronic portfolio development, constant student reflection, self evaluation, and revision of work, and student passage defense.
